“How can you function with long nails like that” and other questions I get asked daily
Everyone has their own idea of what is luxury and what is necessity. Yes, it’s very nice to get an herbal detoxifying body wrap but it’s not on regular rotation. My non-negotiables have always been; brows, hair and nails. It isn’t something you will see me neglect, (if you ever do please pull me aside and have a heart to heart with me because clearly, I am not doing well.)
The past 10 years I have been fortunate enough to carry out my beauty maintenance in some of the best salons with some of the most talented experts. However, even when I was very young and my waitressing tips were negligible it cost next to nothing to file jagged nails, spend some time with my brows and my tweezers and stay brunette.
Nowadays my quest for impressive nail design typically causes a divide in all who notice my nails. They either love them or hate them and daily someone will inevitably ask “how can you function with nails like that?” Well, it’s simple really…I’m just used to it, I’ve learned to text with the pads of my fingers turned sideways and accepted I will never be able to fully make a fist.
In exchange, I get to feel feminine from the moment I wake up and I get to express my current taste via whatever trend I’m wearing. This time last year I was wearing hot pink, almond shape nails with a hand painted heart design, today I am rocking a coffin shaped burgundy matte set with a black lace overlay…. a sign of maturity…perhaps. A sign of constantly evolving and changing for the better…most definitely.
