Crop Tops: I Loved You Then, Not So Much Now.

Crop tops were the signature style back in my younger days in Miami. Every woman/girl would wear these tiny tops that fell right below the breast line and pants that fell right at your hip bones.  They sure didn’t leave much to the imagination but man did they look sexy. As luck would have it they are back in style. Fashion has a funny way of always bringing fads from the past to the present with some minor tweaks and alterations.  Of course, as luck would also have it, most of our bodies don’t look the same as they did back in the nineties. I see these super cute shirts that have an amazing fabric pattern and look but not an appropriate cut for me.  I am not sure if I feel this way because I am much older now and shouldn’t really be wearing them or if it’s  because my stomach doesn’t quite look the same like it did in my 20’s? It’s probably a combination of both…

I know that old styles come around to give the newer generation a feel of what their parents or grandparents era was like but it definitely doesn’t give those of us that lived it, the same nostalgic feeling. It’s like getting a chance to relive the era again but in an older and different body type. I don’t know if fashion does this on purpose to make us go mad or to make us voluntarily get on prescription medication. Either way, I found a way for us to wear those cool crop tops just like the ones we did in our younger days but with much more grace and style.  All you have to do is layer them.  I purchased a cute silver crop top and I wore it over my skinny strap tank top. It created a slimmer dimension around my waist (because of the color black hiding my bulge) and the silver top put emphasis on my breast size. For me, it was a win-win solution. I got to feel like a kid again without having to embarrass myself along the way.

So next time you see a fad from the yonder years come back, get creative and show those younglings how we make fashion look creative and right.
