Vega Protein, What A Great Choice!

I first tried out Vega protein shakes about 10 years ago when I was a Boot Camp instructor at an all women gym. I had already been a vegetarian for over 13 years and was looking for a protein shake that was plant-based rather than whey. I looked through the aisles of a health food store and came across a Vega protein powder chocolate flavor. I was really excited to see an all plant-based/vegan product and quickly purchased it without a taste test or sample.

I went home and prepared my shake with soy milk (I am not a fan of protein shakes with water) and was pleasantly surprised by the taste. Mentally I was prepared for a chalky, mineral-like taste and after the first gulp, it tasted exactly as I had expected. But as I further drank the shake, the taste became better and better and there was no aftertaste. It took my body a few days to get adapted to the nutrients in the shake as I experience bloating, fullness and unfortunately, some gas.

But after about one week and a half, my body was already adapted to the shake. I started to feel more energized and wasn’t too fatigued after my hard core boot camp classes. I was so excited about the improvement I had made using the shake that I started to recommend my clients this particular shake…I also forewarn them of the side effects. 🙂  I even got the gym selling the Vega line and it was the most popular protein sold. I was not in any way getting paid for sponsoring the Vega line through the brand or the gym but I just genuinely believed it was a great protein source.

I had stopped using Vega products when I retired from teaching fitness but recently got excited when I found it at Target. I quickly researched to see what new products were currently in the market and was surprised how far the brand has come. They now have meal bars, protein bars, nutrition bars, Vega greens, vitamins, probiotics, hydration powders, pre-workout energy powders, post workout recovery powders, nutrition powders and their infamous protein powders. Wow! What a mouth full! I bought several samples from Target to try out and I am again pleasantly surprised by the taste. I have only been using the powders for two days and have not experienced any negative side effects…fingers crossed.

If you are looking for a great quality protein source give Vega a try. Their clean protein has 25 grams of protein, 4 grams of BCAAs, no sugar added and only 130 calories. That is some great stats and they now offer such a grand selection of products that you can’t go wrong with whatever you choose.
