Giving Back Through Boot Camp

Fitness, Boot Camp, NLA for women
Opal and I attended the Orange County Fit Expo on Saturday and we were fortunate enough to get in before anyone else could. Now, this wasn’t pure luck…we decided to sign up for a boot camp hosted by Team NLA for Her which benefited WISEPlace for Women. We had to be there at 9:00 am for our check-in for the Creating Your Goddess Boot Camp which consisted of HIIT cardio, lower body, upper body, and abdominals. We were greeted by the wonderful athletes and fitness connoisseurs Lais De Leon, Amy Updike and Camille Gonzalez. Camille kicked us off with the HIIT portion of the boot camp. We had 5 stations to complete and each would involve two-minute circuits. There was two speed and agility ladders; we had to run in and out of one and jump squat in and out of the other. We had suicide runs in another station, high knees and kick backs and the last station involved jump rope. We were then given a water break before starting our lower body portion given by Lais which incorporated jump lunges, squats, reverse lunges, glute bridges and single leg bridges. Amy finished us off with planks, pushups and reverse abdominals…and when I say finish us off, I meant left us exhausted and drenched in sweat.
For me, it was pure bliss…just like the good ol’ days. The days when I used to teach several classes a day and had to change my clothes because I was drenched from teaching Boot Camp, Zumba, Ripped and Pound all in one day. It really brought such great memories, especially because this time I was on the other side of the classroom and the instructors were amazing and highly-respected fitness instructors.
We ended the boot camp with the highlight of the morning, the presentation of the $500 that went to WISEPlace for Women, a nonprofit organization that is a community providing housing and hope for women in crisis. I was really excited to have been a part of this amazing opportunity to give back by doing what I love (fitness) and being able to help such a great organization in their quest in helping homeless women. The boot camp attendees were also rewarded with a wonderful goody bag filled with NLA for Her supplements and merchandise. This experience was truly such a great start to the wonderful hours we spend at the fit expo where there was plenty of vegan tastings to  power me up 🙂
