Are Sugarbearhair Vitamins or Sugar Gummies?

Have you heard about the Sugarbearhair vitamins that have been causing such a commotion all over Hollywood and the internet? Well, I hadn’t heard of them until my best friend ordered me a bottle for my birthday because her nursing friends spoke so positively about the product. Due to many, many years of box-dyes at home and platinum coloring, my hair has endured extreme damage. She and I have always been on the lookout for a “miracle” product but we haven’t had much success. She was also so excited because she saw that the product was advertised as  “Vegetarian Gummies” and thought it would be a perfect fit. I researched the brand and I was highly impressed because the vitamins are cruelty-free, soy free and gluten free, however, they are not vegan. 🙁

I know, I was devastated especially because now I had to tell my best friend that I couldn’t take the vitamins she so excitedly gift me. I discovered that the vitamin D found in the vitamins is sourced from woolThinking face  Then after further reading, I discovered that the first ingredient is glucose syrup followed by sugar and then water.  Now I felt even more obliged to tell her that she too, could not take the vitamins. But I needed more evidence because she is not vegan nor does she care about her sugar intake. So, after much research, I came across this article:  https://www.rd.com/health/conditions/rainbow-risks-6-artificial-food-colors-you-need-to-know-about/  which talks about Blue 1 which is found in the vitamins. “• Blue #1 (E133) and Blue #2 (E132): Banned in Norway, Finland, and France, studies have shown them to cause brain cancer and inhibit nerve-cell development. The colors are found in candy, cereal, soda drinks, sports drinks, and pet food.”

Then several other articles on the internet stated an interview with Sydney-based nutritionist Lyndi Cohen who states:  “Protein is actually the building block of hair, amino acids [what protein gets broken down into] are what your hair is made up of. This isn’t going to be a source of protein in any respect, in fact, the main ingredient is glucose. You’re going to get a far better result by eating lean meats, seeds, nuts, eggs, tofu and healthy omega 3s like oily fish. The other thing is that it’s missing iron, which is another key vitamin for hair growth,” says Lyndi. http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/beauty/face-body/why-is-everyone-so-obsessed-with-these-blue-gummy-bears/news-story/43e2c71eded063b051b0a850617e75eb

Aha! Now, I can tell her about the blue 1, sugar, syrup and lack of protein and iron and throw in just for my amusement the “wool” factor. I get the courage to call her but it was too late. She had already been taking the vitamins and had minimal complaints. She said that she would wake up with slight headaches every morning when she would take the vitamins at night but aside from that, she was happy with the gummies. I told her about my research to which she answered, “what a shame but at $30 + shipping per bottle, you better believe I’m going to finish it. And mail me yours too, we wouldn’t want to waste it!”

There you have it, if you have already purchased the bottle might as well finish it (it does have some great ingredients too) but if you are contemplating it, you are better off eating a healthy diet filled with veggies, fruits and some protein (preferably the vegan type) Smile
