A $90 Lipstick…too much? Or, just right?

I love me some luxury…exotic cars, expensive furs, cognacs named after kings, the most exclusive makeup and skincare etc. While I have an assortment of drugstore finds and high-end beauty favs in my vanity; only a select few snag a coveted spot in my glam clutch for an evening out. Typically, the packaging reigns supreme- as crystal emblazoned lip glosses and gilded lipstick tubes are as much of my total look as my shoes.

At the Nordstrom Fashion Show; a Christian Louboutin pop-up was showcasing their newest lipstick line and the attraction was fierce. Two formulations- one satin; one matte were packaged in a distinct, spiked casing reminiscent of their signature sky-high heels. Every layer was distinct and thought out, from the laser-precision cut of the lipstick itself, to the gold or black crown-topped bullet, to the satin string and velvet lined box…it was all so decadent.

The price tag- a whopping $90 for one, just one of this glorious marriage of high fashion and makeup. Now, coming back down to earth I knew my budget would only afford me one, so I had to choose accordingly. Should I get the black one, classic and iconic or the gold one that screams glam. And the color…it was last thing on my mind, but I knew I had to get a color that was just right; one that I could easily reapply while out since this was sure to be my treasured jewel.

After what felt like an eternity of salivating over the beauty of the design and finishes I settled on the silky satin lip color of Bikini, a rich, vivid, medium true pink that was as feminine as a silk scarf. I babied my purchase and true to form, take my darling almost everywhere. Much like a pampered Pomeranian, my Christian Louboutin Lipstick does not go out in harsh weather, is always treated respectfully and immediately tucked away in its front and center vanity spot upon arrival. The color formulation  itself is great, while it doesn’t top my true love Kim K. W. from Charlotte Tilbury as my signature color; the quality of the pigment and staying power is nothing short of fantastic.
