The Relaxing Thai Herbal Ball

My fellow gourmands will know what I’m talking about; picture a bouquet garni, wrapped tightly and securely filled with the essence of all things fragrant and wonderful. Now, picture that but instead of savory herbs were talking full on aromatics…lemon peel, lavender, mint, Thai basil etc. This is a Thai Herbal Ball and it is an amazing add-on to your spa experience.

The innocuous little sack expertly wrapped in burlap and twine contains thoughtful, carefully planned herbal combinations aimed at specific purposes. Relaxation, muscle tension, focus, energy, it is reminiscent of essential oil blends but so much more intense. This ball is soaked in hot water, like an oversized tea bag to release and coax out the aromatics and oils of the dried herbs and flowers inside.

Once slightly cooled, it is blotted onto your body in conjunction with a massage and kneaded into joints to create a unique sensation and experience. The warmth and softness of the herbal ball provides a pleasant sensation while the influx of intense smell is intoxicating. You can even drop the ball into a running bath much like a bath bomb and literally create a ginormous sized tea experience right in your tub.

Once used; either directly or indirectly on the body it can be dried and re-used a handful of times until the herbs lose their oomph.  While not impossible to find state side the best ones are obviously found overseas as the focus on the herb blend itself not aesthetics reigns supreme. Now if only we could reinvent this simple concept for both effectiveness AND beauty and get it trending…hmmmm…LUSH Cosmetics are you listening? I’d like my finder’s fee please.
