Hydrotherapy for Health

What do you know about Hydrotherapy? Odds are you’ve utilized this alternative treatment to some extent. There are various forms of this practice- from hot/cold therapy to massaging whirlpools and even just simply ingesting warm water in the AM on an empty stomach to “let your digestive system buffer” so to speak. While I think were all guilty of the unexpectedly wonderful feeling that comes from sitting on a hot tub jet; today I want to focus on hot/cold therapy; what it is, why its beneficial and the best places to try it out:

What is Hot/Cold Hydrotherapy? Benefits?

Submerging your body into the warmth of a heated tub followed by a quick plunge into cool (or even cold) water plays off the bodily function of vasodilatation and vasoconstriction. The rapid temperature change reportedly jumps starts your circulatory system resulting in rejuvenation of both body and spirit. Even for the spiritually stoic you can’t deny its invigorating and refreshing effects.

Where to Try it:

Why you could technically mimic the effects in your home by using your shower and/or bathtub it may be worth venturing out and experiencing this practice in a soothing, therapeutic ambiance. After all, this practice is as much for the mind as it is for the body and staring at Legos and kid’s bath toys littered about just doesn’t do the trick. Here’s my list of must-try places:

  • Qua Baths and Spa at Caesar’s Palace, Las Vegas- Roman baths and a classical ambiance create a hydrotherapy experience you can navigate all on your own.
  • Canyon Ranch Spa Club at The Venetian, Las Vegas- Aquavana Thermal Suites bring your hot/cold therapy to new heights.
  • Tikkun Holistic Spa, Santa Monica- Himalayan Salt Rooms add to the experience as you go from a dip into a hot bath to a cooling table shower…bonus; it’s all done for you.
  • The Spring Resort & Spa, Desert Hot Springs, Ca.- If natural is more your thing look no further than this quaint, mineral hot springs with three naturally filled pools of varying temps.
  • Norwegian Cruise line, Escape- A snow room…yes, where is literally snows from above is the perfect way to end a warm dip in one of their whirlpools.
